At Academy St. Thrift, much of our inventory is curated with intention and love. Yes, some of my family members donate clothes, and if the items meet our quality standards, they become part of our collection. But more often than not, I’m the one out on the streets—thrifting, digging through vintage shops, and traveling to cities like Boston and Philly to hunt for unique aesthetics.
I tend to avoid NYC when sourcing. Why? Because “thrifting” in the city has become unaffordable. It’s difficult to maintain both quality and fair pricing while also paying rent. Plus, I’m not interested in replicating NYC fashion. Don’t get me wrong—it’s bold and expressive—but fashion isn’t owned by NYC. You can make a statement anywhere, anytime, with any combination of clothing that feels right to you.
So, back to my original point: yes, we purchase our clothes. We don’t have a donation center like Goodwill, Red White & Blue, American Thrift, or other large organizations that receive free donations only to resell them at marked-up prices. We operate differently—intentionally and independently.
That brings me to something I’m excited about: I just ordered "Wear the Peace" merchandise for Academy St. Thrift. Why? Because this brand aligns deeply with our values.
Here’s what makes them special:
“100% of profits from accessories, caps, and special collections go to different humanitarian causes—such as sending girls in conflict areas to school, feeding families, providing medical aid, building water wells, and more. For every article of clothing sold, they donate a brand-new article to someone in need. They partner with Helping Hand for Relief and Development to deliver clothing to refugee camps around the world.”

At Academy St. Thrift, we choose pieces with purpose. That’s why I’m excited to carry select items from Wear the Peace. We’re not partnered—I just believe in what they stand for.
Their mission aligns with ours: fashion that does good.
Because style isn’t just about what you wear—it’s about what you stand for.
